Propolis ointment is a natural remedy widely used in traditional and homeopathic medicine.
Main active ingredient is propolis - a unique and 100% natural substance produced by honeybees.
Thousands of years ago, ancient civilizations used propolis for its medicinal properties: Greeks - to treat abscesses,
Assyrians put it on wounds and tumors to help the healing process, Egyptians - to embalm mummies.
Researchers have identified more than 300 compounds in propolis. The majority of these compounds are forms of polyphenols
which are antioxidants that fight disease and damage in the body. Specifically, propolis contains the polyphenols called flavonoids.
Possible propolis ointment applications* include:
- violation of skin integrity (wounds, cuts, scratches and abrases);
- burns, erosion;
- acne (improves sebaceous glands function and prevents appearance of new inflammatory elements);
- inflammation of the hemorrhoids;
- runny nose, sinusitis (ointment should be melted in a water bath before dripping into the nose).
10% ointment can be used to activate healing process of small wounds, burns etc., it has "mild action" and is recommended to use for children treatment.
Ointment with higher propolis concentration is used in case of more serious disease of an infectious or inflammatory nature.
